Caz Presbyterian Church observes Advent

The First Presbyterian Church in Cazenovia will celebrate the second Sunday of the Advent Season during its 10 a.m. morning worship service on Dec. 9. The Candle representing “Promise” will be lit on Advent wreath, followed by a litany from the congregation and a choral response from the Senior Choir. The public is invited.

The service will begin with an organ prelude of “Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her” (Good News from Heaven the Angels Bring) by Johann Pachebel, played by Catharine Wheat, Director of Music.

The Sound of Chimes will play “O Come, O Come Emanuel” as the Introit. Familiar passages from the Bible foretelling the Christmas story will be read by members of the congregation. Favorite carols will be sung. The Sounds of Chimes Hand Bell Choir will accompany some of the carols.

The Senior Choir will sing “Love Came Down at Christmas” by John Rutter; “Christmas Fanfare” by Althouse and an arrangement of “The Angel Gabriel Came Down From Heaven.” The organ postlude will be “On This Day Earth Shall Ring” by Powell.

The word “Advent” means “coming” or “arrival.” The focus of the season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ the King in his Second Advent.

Advent is marked by a spirit of expectation, of anticipation, of preparation, of longing, of hope. Advent devotional booklets are available at the church office at 27 Albany St. or can be attained during the Sunday service.

All are invited to celebrate the Advent Season at the First Presbyterian Church of Cazenovia. To learn more, call 655-3191 or visit cazpres.org.
