Fourteen students advance in spelling bee

— On Nov. 7, the Baldwinsville Central School District held its Oral Spelling Bee Championship to determine 14 finalists for the Post Standard/WCNY Spelling Bee written test, which will be held on Jan. 19, 2013.


The top three finalists in the Baldwinsville Central School District Spelling Bee are (from left) Abigail Scherfling, third place; Nicholas Klipp, second place; and Aaron DuBois, first place.

Aaron DuBois, an eighth-grader at Durgee Junior High School, was crowned the district spelling champ. Nicholas Klipp, also an eighth-grader, placed second, and sixth-grader Abigail Scherfling placed third in the competition.

Besides the top three finalists, the other Baldwinsville students who have qualified for the Post Standard/WCNY Spelling Bee are: Rose Mercer, Elden Elementary School; Bianca Gascon, Summer McClintic and Aidan Micho, McNamara Elementary School; Noah Gillette and Jacob Holbrook, Reynolds Elementary School; Thomas Grindle, Sean Micho and Olivia Richards, Ray Middle School; and Madeline Saarie and Lily Sochan-Rosen, Durgee Junior High School.
