Food choice tips
Here are a few tips to help you navigate your food choices if you're away from home. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits. Choose many different colors to maximize the variety. Limit your fried food selections. Choose grilled or BBQ meats when available.
Choose lean meats, poultry, and fish-trim visible fat and skin. Limit breaded meats which are usually fried. Share an entrée or just choose an appetizer for your meal. Choose whole grains such as brown rice or whole grain breads and cereals over processed grains like white bread and rice. All-you-can-eat buffets are a recipe for over indulging! Try to stay away from these places if portion control is an issue for you. Drink water or sugar free soft drinks. Limit fruit juice, fruit drinks, and remember that Alcoholic beverages do have calories. Choose salad dressings with olive oil or canola oil as the base and still limit serving sizes.
